Brief: For this contemporary bathroom brief, we skipped the traditional blues and opted for a soothing beige colour palette. By pairing raw pebble feature tiles with subtle, low-level floor lights, we created the ultimate mood-lit sanctuary to relax and unwind.

Our residential renovation in Carshalton, Surrey, required a complete transformation of a standard family bathroom into a high-end, contemporary retreat with a distinct coastal feel. The homeowners wanted a private oasis designed specifically to help them relax and unwind.

A Warm, Earthy Take on Coastal Design

Rather than relying on predictable nautical blues or stark white minimalism, we leaned into a sophisticated beige colour palette. This choice reflects the soft, neutral tones of sand dunes and coastal stone, bringing immediate warmth and an expansive, airy feel to the space.

Textural Balance via Pebble Feature Tiles

To elevate the coastal theme without overwhelming the contemporary architecture, we seamlessly integrated natural pebble feature tiles. Strategically placed as an organic backdrop, these raw, textured tiles mimic the shoreline, establishing a tactile connection to nature that grounds the entire room’s modern aesthetic.

Restorative Mood Lighting & Floor Lights

True relaxation requires total control over ambiance. To achieve a gentle, spa-like environment, we installed low-voltage, IP-rated floor lights. This evening-ready, mood-lit bathroom allows the homeowners to switch off harsh overhead downlights and enjoy a softly illuminated sanctuary perfect for an evening soak.
