The Brief: A Stylish Setting to Showcase Fine Art
The brief for this luxury Surrey residence was to design a contemporary, stylish formal dining room that functions as both an elite entertaining space and a sophisticated gallery. The primary objective was to curate a refined grey, beige, and white colour palette that intentionally complements and celebrates the client's beautiful fine art collection, ensuring their pieces take pride of place.
The Design Strategy & Execution
To balance a gallery feel with the inherent warmth required for a high-end dining space, we designed, project management & executed a meticulous architectural and procurement strategy:
Architectural Contrast & Dado Panelling: All base panels below the dado rail were painted a deep, stylish dark grey to inject immediate style and warmth. In contrast, the panelled walls above were finished in a crisp, clean white, creating a distraction-free backdrop that allows the artwork to command the room.
Reflective Elegance: On the wall panels left free of art, we inset bespoke mirrors. This design choice adds immense elegance, reflects the beautiful artwork from alternative angles, and mirrors the home’s stunning landscaped grounds outside.
Bespoke Furniture Procurement: To complement the client’s existing dining table, we designed and commissioned bespoke mahogany sideboards with a distinctly contemporary accent. We introduced a premium warm oak floor to provide a contrasting wood finish that grounds the space.
Layered Ambient Lighting: To ensure the perfect atmosphere for every formal entertaining occasion, we installed three pleated fabric shade feature pendant lights above the dining table, beautifully paired with complementing table lamps to create a warm, layered ambient lighting scheme.
