Project Type: Traditional Interior Design & Specialist Luxury Procurement
Location: Hertfordshire,United Kingdom
Design Style: Elevated Country Manor, Playful Heritage, Transitional Formal Dining
The Brief: Banqueting Grandeur with a Modern Family Pulse
The brief for this majestic Grade II listed country manor house was to design an elegant, traditional formal dining room. The space needed to feel inherently stylish and sophisticated while delivering seamless functionality for hosting large-scale dinner parties and family celebrations. It was essential that the design respected the architectural heritage and grand proportions of the historic manor house, while simultaneously injecting a fresh sense of youthfulness to reflect the lifestyle of the clients’ young family.
The Design & Procurement Strategy
1. Preserving Traditional Country Manor Heritage
To honor the historic bones and Grade II listed status of the estate, our procurement team sourced timeless, high-stature grounding elements:
Grand Dining Furniture: We cleverly & seamlessly enlarged our clients existing 6 seater dining table to a spectacular large 10 seater antique mahogany dining table paired with matching mahogany display and serving cabinets, providing extensive surface space for large-scale entertaining.
The Textural Underlay: To soften the room's expansive footprint and anchor the grand dining set, we sourced a traditional, large-scale patterned floor rug to bring timeless warmth to the space.
2. Infusing Contemporary Youthfulness
To counter the formality of the dark wood and historic proportions, we seamlessly introduced an unexpected, modern design layer:
Tactile Hide Upholstery: Moving away from conventional fabric seating, we procured contemporary hide-covered dining chairs. This organic material introduces an instant layer of youthfulness, tactile texture, and family-friendly durability.
Reimagined Crystal Lighting: We designed a striking lighting script anchored by a stunning, contemporary interpretation of a classic crystal chandelier by Porta Romana, beautifully paired with matching architectural crystal wall lights.
Architectural Wall Texturing: To wrap the room in comfort and character, we installed elegant dado-level wall panelling. Above the panelling, the walls were dressed in a subtle, modern textured paisley wallpaper that catches the light beautifully during evening events.
