Traditional Country Style Entrance Room | Grade II Listed Manor House
Project Type: Traditional Interior Design & Specialist Luxury Procurement
Location: United Kingdom
Design Style: Traditional Country Manor, Playful Heritage, Contemporary Classic Edge
The Brief: Preserving Grade II Listed Heritage with a Youthful Edge
The brief for this sprawling, Grade II listed country manor house was to design a traditional, country style Entrance Room that establishes a magnificent first impression. While the interiors absolutely had to respect and honour the majestic age and architectural style of the historic estate, the client required a clever infusion of contemporary youthfulness and playfulness tailored to their active young family.
The Design & Procurement Strategy
1. Honouring the Heritage Bones
To ground the design in the property's rich history, we sourced authentic, high-end period elements that sit beautifully within the listed architecture:
Period Furniture: We introduced timeless antique mahogany tables and traditional wingback armchairs to establish an immediate sense of country house stature.
Classic Lighting & Hardware: The ambient lighting script is anchored by exquisite Tiffany ceiling and wall lights. For a striking structural detail, we procured an architectural, ornate burnished gold radiator.
Textural Foundations: The grand flagstone footprint was softened with a large, round traditionally patterned rug, meticulously styled to ground the main seating area.
2. Infusing Contemporary Playfulness
To break the formality of the manor house and inject the requested element of youthfulness, we introduced an eclectic, design-led narrative through bespoke tailoring and artisan brands:
Bespoke Tailored Upholstery: The traditional wingback chairs were given a vibrant lease of life using a bold tartan fabric. To apply a sharp contemporary touch, we specified a contrasting fabric for the detailed piping and the backs of the chairs, effortlessly tying the seating in with the main entrance hall carpet.
Whimsical Statement Wallpaper: We wrapped a magnificent feature wall in Andrew Martin’s iconic 'Love Letters' wallpaper, introducing a striking, graphic talking point that bridges classic literature with modern pop-art charm.
Artisan Lighting Accessories: To deliver a joyful, narrative-driven finishing touch, we procured Porta Romana’s gorgeous gold 'Duck Feet' lamps. Positioned as statement table lighting, these luxury fixtures offer a witty, high-end nod to the beautiful large duck pond gracing the front of the country estate.
